The aim of compensation is to put you in the same position you would be in had your accident not occurred. You can claim for damages for anything that you have lost due to your injury or accident, including:

- Loss of earnings if you are unable to work as a result of your accident
- Medical costs, including transport to and from appointments, e.g. hospital visits, physiotherapy
- The pain you suffered – the amount you receive will depend on the severity of your injuries and how long you suffered the consequences
- Loss of future earnings if you are not able to return to work or return to a lower paid job, depending on how serious your injuries are
- Other future costs, such as aids and adapting your home to help with a disability
