UnionLine, the trade union owned law firm, launches its new dedicated service for members in Scotland today, 11 April 2016. The new service will provide members with a specialist firm for handling cases under Scottish jurisdiction.
Members using UnionLine Scotland will be entitled to the same quality services they receive now, but in a first among trade unions, our members can be dealt with by a dedicated firm. Previously UnionLine has used a selected panel of independent specialist law firms to deal with Scottish cases, but these cases can now be handled directly by UnionLine Scotland.
Members can make their claims in the same way, by calling our helpline or contacting their union, and they can be referred to the specialist UnionLine Scotland team, based in Glasgow.
Matt Cordall, Head of Legal Practice at UnionLine, said: “It is fantastic to be able to announce this new service for our members. The growth of UnionLine within just two years of our launch in 2014 is testament to our hard work and success, and adding this service ensures that we remain competitive.
“UnionLine is once again leading the way in ensuring that trade union members receive a quality and dedicated legal service through their membership. We will continue to channel our resources into providing the best possible service for our members.”
UnionLine was launched by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and GMB trade unions in 2014 to provide a one stop shop legal service for the combined membership of over 830,000 people. The first of its kind ABS was created in response to changes in the legal industry, including reductions in the legal aid budget, a revolution in costs recovery, and the introduction of tribunal fees in employment law cases.
UnionLine provides employment law and personal injury services to its members, along with free simple wills, conveyancing and a legal helpline offering general advice. Within a year of its launch, UnionLine had added a criminal and regulatory service and motor legal cover for members and their families.
In November 2015, UnionLine was announced as ABS of the Year (26 – 100 employees) at the Modern Law Awards. It was also shortlisted for Best Use of Technology at the same awards, and in February 2016 was shortlisted for the Client Care Award at the Modern Claims Awards 2016, with winners to be announced in April this year.
